Faith and Riches

James 1:9-11

We ought not to take pride in our possessions, but in the work of Christ on the cross. Jesus spoke more about riches than he did about heaven and hell combined. Yet, God chose to bless some biblical characters with riches. Money is not inherently bad, but priding ourselves in it is.

Jesus completely upends the measurement of the world. In God's kingdom, the humble are exalted and the poor find riches not in material things but in knowing Christ, the greatest blessing of all. We aren't self-reliant, we need Jesus.

This life is fleeting, and death is the greatest equaliser. We cannot take anything with us to the grave. Reliance and love of money numbs us to this truth. What we do with this short life we have matters forever. Let us live our lives fixed on Jesus, setting our hearts on heaven. Let us use what money we do have for God's glory, and not our own, giving generously when we are able. Our life is a breath in light of eternity: pursue what truly matters.
